I have been lost from blogging  for a little over 2 months now! Crazy how fast the weeks go…  We have had so many things happen in the last few weeks. Wedding, Honeymoon, and right back into the “real” start of wedding season for me as a wedding photographer. We have been working like crazy, hence the reason we have not been able to blog about the wedding yet. I am soon bringing you images from our wedding and all the juicy details and money saving DIY projects we did as well as all the vendors we used for our vintage barn wedding. I am so excited to show you images collaborated from a few friend photographers. Some of which went to college with me at  Brooks Institute of Photography, others are still in school for photography here at Sac State, and some really good shots from some of our family members. Keep in mind we did not spend a dime on photography because we had all these friends and I also could not keep my mouth shut on telling people how to photograph everything so… I’m sure  no paid photographer would have wanted to hear my mouth running and have me judging / grabbing the camera from them to get a few shots here and there.  It was a hard thing to accept, that I was not able to photograph our wedding the way my eyes saw it. Overall I think we got some great shots. I wish I had a little more time to photograph a few detailed shots during the wedding… but it was nice just to enjoy our wedding as a bride :)

Here are our choices for our Thank You cards… It is a hard decision because the vintage one fits our wedding theme pretty well and the other one is just clear and bright. I think we will probably go with the bright one. This image was taken by my great friend Jen Patton who went to Brooks with me. Thanks Jen!  Now I gotta get moving on these Thank you’s. We are late sending them out!

Less than 2 weeks away ! OH MY!

04/20/2011

We are soooo excited and can not believe we will be getting married so soon! I absolutely can not wait to see all of the items in our living room turn our barn into a wedding ! Our living room is filled with jars, bottles and everything wedding. We have lots of small projects going on. I hope we can finish them all. Here are some of the latest DIY projects we’ve done and a few pics of our venue on our last site visit!

This is reclaimed wood from our really old backyard fence gate. Justin had a great idea to rip these great pieces of wood off and rebuild the gate with new wood. We cut the arrows to help with directions for our guests and added some other fun signs for photos and for around the venue. Painting the letters was very simple and fun.

These are chalk board signs we are making for the containers of Lemonade and water… there are some other items we wanted to have chalkboard frames hanging for so we just made a bunch of them. I cut out pieces of standard ply-wood to make the sizes I wanted. I found two frames at the antique fair that I am using on two of the chalkboard signs. I just used wood glue to glue them onto the painted ply-wood. Drill holes in the top for your rope to fit through and there you have it! Wood chalkboard frames for under $3.00

I can’t wait to show the photos of the wedding, getting ready, setting everything up… etc. Stay tuned for a few more projects before the big day!

Bridesmaids Attire…

03/24/2011

OH MY !  How cute are these ? It took many hours of searching online to find a cute simple bridesmaids dress that would fit our wedding. I found some that would have been cute but when I stumbled upon these, I knew this was the one. It is adorable and will fit in so well with the rest of the wedding.  The best part about these dresses ? … They only cost $40 !  This handmade vintage inspired dress can be found on Etsy.com  under jenniferlillydesigns . She has lots of other very cute dresses, go check them out .

We need shoes and belts and should they wear something in their hair ??? There are so many decisions still to make.

Vintage Bottles and amazing finds at the Antique Fair…

03/21/2011

I’m having such a great time finding all these vintage bottles and neat items that go with our vintage theme so well!  Check all of these out! There are so many more where that came from. More pics to come soon of all the great finds I’ve come across. And to think, I got all of the vintage decor at thrift stores for under $15 dollars every trip! How many trips I’ve taken is the question ! haha. You have to check back often to find the good stuff ;) I can’t wait to see it all together at the wedding! Things are really coming together now. We have a caterer, officiant, decor, and RSVP’s are coming back to use by the day !! YEeeaa!

Super Excited !! We’ve got Hello Lucid !

03/09/2011

Ok for those of you who have seen the work of Hello Lucid, you will know why I am so excited that they are going to be shooting our wedding video! We love Jesh and Bryce and we could not imagine a better team getting our video done. They have this amazing way with music and emotion shoots through you when you watch their films! They recently shot a promotional video for us @ Jenn  Bartell Photography and Design. You can see that video here.

Our vintage inspired invitations…

03/04/2011

It’s been awhile since I have been able to blog! I have a stack of things to blog about… I am most excited about the invitations! They are done! yeeeaaaa. I spent about 3 nights after work, building these invitations, not to mention how long I spent designing them. The wording of an invitation really is a very hard thing to figure out ! Now that they are done, I can’t tell you how happy we were  with the look and the feel of them. They fit “us” and our wedding perfectly! Check out the pics below, you will see the crazy mess I had on the floor of the office for 3 days, some specific supplies I used and the final products… Justin was calling me the mad scientist every time he would walk by. I had custom rubber stamps made with a design I had made up for the RSVP’s, as well as the logo rubber stamp made, I bought the ivory invitation paper from pulp papery, and the kraft paper/kraft tags I found on the internet. After all the separate purchases and ideas that came together for these invites, I don’t even know how much I ended up spending on these invites. I do know it was worth doing it all myself ! Please feel free to email me if you have any more questions about the process of putting these together or where to get items, or for custom invitations designed for your wedding!

Save the Dates…

02/17/2011

Ok… When it comes to design, I looooove finding inspiration! There are so many amazing, fun, vintage and modern ideas it is so hard to choose one idea and run with it ! So I finally narrowed it down and am running with the one I think I like most. You are supposed to send out save the dates about 6 months before your wedding and your invites about 2 months before. Since we only have about 2.5 months left before our wedding … we thought we better just send out  a little email save the date, just to make sure everyone knows about the wedding. We came up with this neutral design knowing we wanted to use a key in our logo. I’ve been working on the invites and logo and can’t wait to show you all what we’ve come up with! I thought about having you all vote on which logo was the best… but once I saw what was coming together, I just knew it was going to be the best one, and we just don’t have the time for a vote. Those puppies should be going out within the next two weeks ! Yikes. Check back soon to see the full invitations !

Decisions, Decisions…

02/03/2011

How do people make all these decisions when there are so many great ideas out there ! It’s so hard to choose which ones to use!! We have made one hard decision already and it is a relief ! I had this place in my inspiration folder and I knew Justin would just love it too! We went to see it the other day and I think he def. fell in love with the place. We could both picture our wedding there and knew it was the perfect spot! So check Venue off the list, we’ve booked the Stone Barn Ranch, in Sheridan Ca. In booking the venue, we were required to choose a date, so, May 1st 2011 it is ! Check choose a wedding date off the list as well! Moving fast and so far so good!

Check out where we are getting married !! YEaaa! Isn’t it amazing ?

I must have looked at a million Barn places online. Like I said earlier, my dream wedding would take place in an old barn with tall grass everywhere… I just didn’t know that they could charge so much for some of these places ! Crazy. We could do so much more with $5,000 plus !! Here are some of the other places I liked but were either unavailable or out of our budget…

Nestldown is soooo beautiful with the forrest and all the great light coming in through those trees! The Barn is really great and it is huge!!

Radonich Ranch was one of my favorites for awhile !! It is so great looking!! There is so much potential here. Unfortunately they Book up super fast and they are a bit far away.

All in All I think we made the best choice ! I absolutely love Stone Barn Ranch!
